Foil Drive Propeller Guide: Which 3-Blade Prop Fits Your Setup?

With its new 3-blade propeller lineup, Foil Drive expands the system with two clearly positioned performance options. Alongside the familiar Standard Black Propeller, there is now the Low Range 6% LR6 (Blue) and the Mid-High Range 10% MHR10 (Grey). In the related video, Foil Drive explains very clearly why these three props are not simply slight variations of the same idea, but purpose-built options for different riding styles, conditions and setups.

That is exactly what makes this launch interesting. It is not about which propeller is universally best. The real question is what kind of performance you want on the water. Do you want the earliest possible thrust for take-off? Are you looking for more efficiency and speed through the mid to upper speed range? Or do you still want the most versatile all-round option? That is what this expanded prop range is all about.

Three propellers, three purposes

The video makes one thing clear quickly: this is not about replacing the standard prop. Foil Drive is expanding the tuning range. The black standard prop remains the dependable baseline, while the two new options are optimized in different directions.

  • Standard Black: the versatile all-rounder
  • Low Range 6% LR6 (Blue): more low-end thrust, easier take-off and better control at low speed
  • Mid-High Range 10% MHR10 (Grey): more top-end speed, stronger mid-range thrust and more efficient cruising

These three prop options give riders far more room to fine-tune their Foil Drive setup around rider weight, conditions, board, foil and riding style.

Standard Black Propeller – the all-rounder

The Standard Black Propeller remains the most balanced option in the range. It is not heavily optimized toward either early low-end thrust or maximum high-speed efficiency. Instead, it covers a broad range of conditions dependably – the right choice if you are not chasing a specific performance target or ride a wide mix of conditions.

  • All-round foil assist sessions
  • Mixed conditions
  • Riders who prefer a versatile setup
  • Anyone not focused on extreme low-end or top-end performance

Foil Drive Propeller LR6 Blue

Low Range 6% LR6 (Blue) – more thrust down low

The LR6 (Blue) is aimed at riders who want more support at lower speeds: more low-end thrust, easier take-off and better recovery near stall. This prop is physically 6% larger in width and diameter – added blade area means more grip and more thrust at lower speeds.

  • Earlier and easier take-off
  • More control at low speed
  • More confidence after touchdowns or near-stall moments
  • Heavier riders, smaller boards or foils
  • Choppy conditions, wave riding, downwind and technical water states

Trade-off: more low-end does not automatically mean more top-end speed. For speed and efficiency at higher pace, the MHR10 is the stronger match.

Mid-High Range 10% MHR10 (Grey) – more speed and efficiency

The MHR10 (Grey) targets riders who want more from their setup in the mid to upper speed range: more top-end speed, stronger mid-range thrust and more efficient cruising. It grows 10% in width only – increasing blade surface without a larger sweep, ideal for controlled power delivery when cruising or chasing faster swell.

  • More top-end speed and stronger mid-range thrust
  • Better cruising efficiency
  • Fast swell, bumps, upwind and downwind
  • Light to mid-weight riders and more advanced riders

Trade-off: in the very low-speed range, the MHR10 offers fewer benefits than the LR6.

Which propeller suits which rider?

Standard Black: A simple all-round solution for a broad mix of conditions.

Low Range 6% LR6 (Blue): Earlier lift, more low-end power and more control in challenging conditions – especially relevant for heavier riders.

Mid-High Range 10% MHR10 (Grey): For riders who already get onto foil cleanly and want more speed, mid-range punch and efficiency once up and running.

Foilit verdict

With these new 3-blade propellers, Foil Drive takes a very smart step toward more deliberate setup tuning. The Standard Black still matters, the LR6 delivers real gains in low-end and take-off, and the MHR10 is clearly aimed at riders chasing speed and efficiency.
