Foil Drive™ External Antenna – a reliable controller signal on carbon boards
Foil Drive’s built-in Gen2 antenna works for most setups. On boards with full carbon foil tracks laminated into a full carbon construction – and with some carbon layups – the signal can struggle to pass through the board. This is where the External Antenna comes in: it places a secondary antenna on top of the board, giving you a stronger and more stable link between controller and motor unit.
Foil Drive developed the antenna with engineers who build wireless communication systems for nuclear power plant operations; the signal attenuation technology is patent pending. Before buying, Foil Drive recommends watching its video on controller signal connectivity.
How it works
A 2 mm thin plate sits between the electronics box and the board. From there, a thin cable runs along the bottom of the board to a small antenna pad on the deck. The antenna is completely passive – it needs no power and no connection to the electronics box – and can stay on your board whether you are riding with Foil Drive or not. Every antenna comes with foam pads that raise the nose cone by 2 mm.
Fusion or Assist MAX / Slim?
The antenna is available in two system versions. Choose Fusion for the Gen 2.5 Fusion system – only this version has the correct antenna patch size for Fusion. Choose Assist MAX / Slim for the Gen2 Assist MAX and Assist Slim. Both versions come with a 130 cm (51") or 180 cm (71") cable. The External Antenna is not compatible with Gen1 Assist or Assist PLUS.
Variants
| Variant | System | Cable length |
|---|---|---|
| External Antenna Fusion 130 cm - 51" | Fusion (Gen 2.5) | 130 cm / 51" |
| External Antenna Fusion 180 cm - 71" | Fusion (Gen 2.5) | 180 cm / 71" |
| External Antenna Assist MAX / Slim 130 cm - 51" | Assist MAX / Assist Slim (Gen2) | 130 cm / 51" |
| External Antenna Assist MAX / Slim 180 cm - 71" | Assist MAX / Assist Slim (Gen2) | 180 cm / 71" |
Good to know: mast plate bolts
On some boards with standard or deep tracks, the 2 mm plate means you will need longer mast plate bolts: 85 mm for Assist MAX or 65 mm for Assist Slim. Measure before ordering so the bolts engage the T-nuts securely – insufficient engagement can damage the board, the Foil Drive unit or the mast.
